Using a wide range of instruments, Don Kapot work their sound into a solid, complex rhythmic wave shot through with crazy samples. Bandcamp highlighted Un Peu Live (W.E.R.F. Records), their live album featuring Fulco Ottervanger, as a “very fun mix of modern jazz and krautrock”.
The three members from Brussels co-create songs of iconoclastic form that are often hypnotic, always tinged with jazz spirit and that they themselves describe as ‘Afropunk rock-’n’-roll power’.
With four albums and a few other productions to their credit, and almost ten years of existence, Don Kapot have built up a coherent and ever-evolving body of work. Giotis Damianidis (bass and guitar), Viktor Perdieus (saxophones and various instruments) and Jakob Warmenbol (drums and samples) draw on a solid knowledge of improvisation, an explosive imagination and a shared sense of groove and risk to deliver music that comes into its own when played live.
HIGHLIGHTS
Their fourth album I Love Tempo (W.E.R.F. Records) was mixed and co-produced by Greg Saunier (Deerhoof). Mojo wrote: “The Brussels trio’s grooves go blurringly hard, offset by quieter fluctuating nuances”. Recent highlights include a UK tour in November 2024, accompanied by the release of an EP on W.E.R.F. Records, Remedy, with two more due in 2025. Nick O’Neil, a promoter in Bristol, says: “Putting music on in such grassroots spaces like Elmers is invigorating for the soul. Especially when the band are as great and as nice as Don Kapot”.
